Clement Wragge

Our old pal Alex Gillespie salvaged this remarkable picture from an old glass plate slide. Dating from around 1880 it shows the Peat Moss Weather Station below Ben Nevis - where the aluminium factory is now - with, we think, Clement Wragge in the background. At this time Wragge was ascending Ben Nevis on a daily basis to make weather observations. His work eventually led to the building of a weather observatory on the summit in 1883.
