Provenance

If you are interested in old camping stoves then check out a website called Classic Camp Stoves and you'll find all you need. We asked one of their experts, Ross Mellows, about our stove and here's what he had to say:-
" T&W made the early ones. In later years it was like many military items, they were made under license by several manufacturers. Two I know of were SURMET(S.S.M.C. Ltd.) & Westinghouse Signal & Brake Co. Ltd. I believe they also did the modifications to the earlier stoves to make them MK2 (modified). You can tell the modified ones - the cut out for the front tap is still on the slide out front but capped off & the control to the side. A new MK 2 was manufactured to the new design- the fuel feed went straight to the burner & the cut-out for the front tap was dropped as were the spares in the windshield. The MK2's are silent burner"
T&W refers to a company called Turley & Williams and it looks like ours is the later - new MK2 - version which we think dates from the late 1940's. It's in mint, unused condition and was bought in a junk shop for £5.
