Creator of the Scottish Mountain Heritage Collection, Mick Tighe, was a Royal Marine Commando from 1967-77 and for the latter part of that period he was an instructor in the Mountain and Arctic Warfare Cadre. It became a bit of a tradition in the 'Cadre' to give leaving instructors a chromed ice-axe or piton hammer as a momento, so this is Mick's farewell present. It was mounted on a wooden plaque at one time, but that's disappeared somewhere.
