We are assuming that this rucksack is homemade as we can't find any identification marks though there is a fair chance that it's a 'pirate' version of a Bergan.
Bergans of Norway produced the Rolls Royce of rucksacks back in the 1930's/40's and 50's and the word 'Bergan' became a generic term for all metal framed rucksacks in that era whoever the manufacturers. As with all good brands there are copies, often cheaper and not so well made. The rogue manufacturer would avoid putting their own name on the rucksack for legal reasons and to help with the myth that it was a real Bergan.
The Blacks advert - opposite - has a genuine Bergan for sale, but carries a warning against imposters which seems very appropriate if you read the Blanks advert - opposite - which has a Bergan pattern ruc-sac for half the price!
