Skipton Gt. Britain
Paul and Sarah Howcroft set the mountaineering clothing world alight when they launched their innovative designs under the tradename Rohan in 1975. British mountaineers who had been wearing ex war department anoraks and itchy breeches for decades did not take kindly to this 'gucci' gear, looking smart in the mountains was surely for the French and Italians, not the Brits!!
Fashion shows at trade fairs, innovative catalogues, creative marketing, but above all, stylish, functional, and fashionable clothing eventually won the day with Rohan almost becoming a cult. Paul Howcroft died in a car crash in 1993 and the Rohan name has passed to various 'holding' companies over the years. Still going strong in 2010 however, there is even a community web-site for friends of Rohan called 'Rohantime'
Not quite sure where this pair came from, but think our old friend Alex Gillespie might have donated them. They look to be a fairly early pair and probably date from the late 1970's or early 80's.
