Provenance

Not sure where we got this one from but this is a lovely old wooden wedge which looks home made, probably from a piece of oak. The No 2 nylon rope has been tied and rather lovingly spliced to stop it coming undone. This would date from around 1955 we reckon and whoever donated it can rest assured that it's much appreciated. Interestingly, perhaps, the wooden wedges that were used on the first ascent of the Old Man of Hoy in the 1960's are still there in 2010, being far less prone to the corrosive effect of salty sea spray which destroys anything metallic in a couple of years.
