Provenance

They call them bongs because of the noise made when you bang them into a crack.
Clog started making them in the 1960’s in an old cinema in Deniolen in North Wales.
The legendary Denny Moorehouse and his partner, Shirley Smith, were one of the first companies in the UK to make gear for rock climbers back then.
It seems that production was a little bit disorganised in the early days and there’s a nice little example here.
These bongs were basically a flat piece of steel, shaped, folded and pinned at the corner. Unfortunately, whoever folded one of these three, folded it the wrong way since the Clog logo is on the inside rather than the outside.
