Clog
Brainchild of blacksmith and 'craft' teacher, John Brailsford, these Acorns were the first commercially produced form of 'protection' for rock climbing in the UK. Rope slings, jammed knots and filed out nuts having been the norm until 1961 when Acorns were first manufactured by MOAC(MOuntaineering ACtivities) in conjunction with Brailsford. These two examples were salvaged from the Joint Services Mountain Training Centre(JSMTC) where Mick Tighe worked as an instructor from 1979-1982. For more information see other items in the collection and link to the NUT MUSEUM.
We've had a note from Stephanie Pennequin, who owns the Nut Museum, telling us that our Acorns are made by Clog which is why they have a 'C' on them.
