14 points is not normal for a crampon as they usually have twelve or less.In this case the Chamonix based company, Charlet Moser, have added two extra points at the rear of the crampon to assist in descending steep ice.
Interestingly, lots of accidents are caused by mountaineers slipping when coming downhill on steep snow and ice, even when wearing ordinary crampons, so this would seem to be an excellent idea, even more so when considering the steep, very hard glacier ice of the Alps.
Surprisingly then, the idea didn’t catch on, in the UK anyway, though Charlet-Moser may have had more success in the Alps.
The company were taken over by Petzl in 2000 to become Petzl- Charlet though the latter seems to have disappeared by 2020.
