Provenance

Although we've catalogued the items separately, these plates were part of Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team's Field Kitchen, a picture of which you will see opposite. The 'kitchen' was used at the annual river bed race to make hot drinks and soup for the competitors.
The race involved jumping in, and floating down a section of the River Nevis on an air bed and was the Rescue Team's main fund raising event in the 1970/80/90's. Those who survived were given soup and tea, those who didn't were carted off to A&E.
The 'kitchen' was retired in the late 90's when it was donated to the collection by the Rescue Team.
