Provenance

Mick Tighe bought this wee stove, along with half a dozen old primus/optimus stoves, in a box for £5 in an auction in the 1980's.
"JS&S Governor" which is stamped below 'The Lamb Petrol Stove' stands for John Shaw & Sons (Wolverhampton) Ltd. It appears that they acquired 'Lamb' in 1914 and the 'Governor' seems to be their logo which also appears on the stove in the form of a steam engine governor. Early models of the stove (until 1924) had a tin cover/pot rest as can be seen in the rather 'woozy' old advert opposite. Our one would seem to be a later version or the tin was lost as is often the way. Nice little stove though.
