Provenance

Manufactured by Longines Wittnauer for the United States Air force in 1941, this lovely little pocket compass seems to have the rare Wittnauer dial - not sure what the others had! Mick Tighe bought it for £10 on e-Bay in 2012, which seems to have been a bargain as others seemed to be selling for three or four times that price at the time.
The experts may have noticed that Longines are Swiss and the connection is that Wittnauer was their agent in the USA, hence the name. Longines also made pocket compasses for Great Britain in WW1.
