Provenance

This lovely little methelayted spirit stove is part of a picnic set/hamper made by Drew & Sons in London. They started out in 1844 when cabinet maker, John Drew, decided to start his business. The firm turned out some very 'bespoke' items of travelware, campaign sets, picnic baskets, suitcases etc., some of which were silver plated! Many of these items come up for auction a hundred plus years later and fetch high prices.
We suspect a rather less glamorous, but maybe more exciting use of this particular stove as it was given to Mick Tighe by an old hill-man who had 'borrowed ' it from its original picnic basket and used it on many a camping trip. 'En route', which we find on the side of the fuel container, seems to be a range of of Drew's outdoor gear and we can date the stove to the 1920's as the company ceased to exist not long after that.
