Provenance

As the founder of the Scottish Mountain Heritage Collection, Mick Tighe, gets a little older he has started taking an interest in walking sticks and we are wondering if it'll be a mountain zimmer next!!
Anyway, this lovely little stick was donated by Mick's pal, George Bruce, hillman and longtime member of Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team. It has been lovingly made from ash or hazel - we think, and just as lovingly used by the looks of it. It's interesting to note that in the good old days hill folk nearly always used a stick, often hand made like this one and free. Now we have a whole new industry churning out walking poles by the millions and charging the earth!
