We can't say for sure, as there are no markings to prove or disprove our theory, but we think this is a 'faces' ice screw from the 1980's , although the head in the picture opposite looks a tiny bit different.
There were lots of these titanium ice screws around at the time, most of which came from Russia as they seemed to have a surfeit of titanium at the time - 'faces' obviously tried to buck the trend by having their own ones made.
Whether, Russian or British, we do know that this particular type were pretty useless as the 'hangar' - that's the sticky out bit at the top - spun, under pressure, without the screw because the two flat bits on either side of the screw itself were too shallow. The teeth were pretty poor as well and would bend or break at the hint of hard ice.
