Falk Stadelman were one of the best known names in the history of lighting in the UK and Europe in a time when oil lamps reigned supreme and electricity was a world away. Veritas and Valour were trading names of the company and hardly a household in the UK would have been without one of their lamps in the early 1900's, and if they were, the street lamps were probably powered by them anyway.
We don't know for sure, but it seems fairly apparent that electricity sounded the death knell for Falks and Veritas though the butane gas market helped then through the 1950's.
This Chieftan Butane Stove appeared on the market around 1960 along with two similarly named pals, the Highlander and the Clansman (which we also have here in the collection)
Though well made and looking the business, we can't help wonder what market they were aimed at and why three, very similar stoves came out at the same time.
Whatever the reasoning behind it all, it does not seem to have been a success as Falks ceased trading in the late 1960's.
Unable to resist the evocative Scottish names, Mick Tighe bought this stove and its two 'pals' on the internet in 2012, giving us a nice trilogy.
