Halogen bulbs and Light Emitting Diodes (LED's) sounded the death knell for ordinary headlamps in the 1990's. Whilst still perfectly serviceable, the small pool of yellowish light that issued from headlamps such as this one almost left one fumbling in the dark when compared with the vast amounts of white light emanating from an LED. Add to this the longevity and reliability factors and it's easy to see how LED's have captured the market - a far cry from the days when folk grovelled about in the shadowy world of a candle lantern.
Though a fairly standard wee headlamp, this one does have a fairly illustrious pedigree , as it belonged to Tom Weir, one of Scotland's famous 'mountain sons.' Tom died back in 2006 and his wife, Rhona, kindly gave us some of his gear which included this headlamp.
