Provenance

Interestingly perhaps, the first paraffin stove developed in 1892 was based on the design of a hand held blowlamp/torch and as Primus developed the market for their stoves, they also produced blowlamps which were very much in use for metalworking in the days before electricity and gas became widely available. The paraffin camping stove and the blowlamp worked on the same principle of first pressurising the paraffin and then releasing it through a small jet which could be vapourised and ignited.
The Swedidh company, Primus, were the first to produce both stoves and blowlamps back in in the 1890's, but their basic design was copied worldwide, particularly in the UK where, amongst many others, Birmingham based engineering firm Monitor started producing both stoves and blowlamps way back in the 1930's.
So whilst not strictly a mountaineering object, we thought this lovely little monitor blowlamp would be a nice link with the Monitor stoves we have elsewhere in the collection.
