Another ice-screw to add to our ever growing collection which makes us wonder how many different types of ice-screws there are out there....thousands probably. Another thought is a collective for ice-screws (as in 'flock of sheep') maybe a 'thread' would be a good start!
Anyway, this one is a Cassin, named after the eminent Alpinist,Ricardo Cassin, who, at some point in his glittering alpine climbing career, started a mountaineering equipment manufacturing company. The Scottish based outdoor retailers, Nevisport were the UK importers of Cassin equipment in the 1970/80's and the screw we have here in the collection still has a Nevisport price tag of £19.00. We suspect it dates from around 1990.
This one once belonged to Mick Tighe and doesn't appear to have been used. Ice screw technology was, and still is, moving very quickly in those days and screws often become outdated from season to season relegating last years model to a dusty shelf which seems to be what happened here.
