Provenance

A helicopter crewman's flying helmet might not seem to have much to do with Mountain Heritage but there is an excellent connection. Owner of the helmet, Mick Anderson, was a crewman on the RAF Wessex Search and Rescue (SAR) helicopters for many years in the 1970's and was therefore involved in hundreds of mountain rescues throughout the UK and probably elsewhere in the world, so we think this is a lovely little link with the world of mountaineering.
Mick headed off to the big mountains in the sky(not by helicopter) in 2014 and some of his RAF pals salvaged this helmet when clearing his belongings with his family. Thanks to them all for preserving this lovely little piece of mountain related history and thanks to Mick for all his many rescues over the years.
