Charlie Fowler was an American mountaineer, writer and photographer who had a glittering career on his own native, American mountains and throughout the greater mountain ranges of the world. It was on one of his exploratory trips to the remote southwestern corner of China that he met an untimely death along with his girlfriend, Christine Boskoff,on the 6204 metre, Mt Genyen.
A Glasgow born orthopedic surgeon,(now living in Canada) called John McCall, was a great friend of Charlie's and somewhere along the way he acquired one of Charlie's high altitude climbing suits which he has now passed on to us. A strange connection maybe, but founder of our Heritage Collection, Mick Tighe, Charlie and John McMCall were all pals and had climbed together in Scotland, doing, amongst other things, several new climbs on the island of Mingulay.
Makers of the suit, Integral Designs, Canada, describe themselves as making "innovative outdoor gear for self propelled adventurers" and that would seem to fit Charlie perfectly. We are not 100% sure, but think Integeral Designs made the suit specifically for Charlie as a one off.
Thanks to them, to John McCall and to Charlie for some great days climbing.
