We were a bit stuck with this compass for a while and originally put it on the website as an 'Enigma Compass' since we couldn't find any markings on it. Then Thomas Van Nieuwenhoven got in touch from Amsterdam to tell us that it was a Suunto G-80 Cart-O-Master. We checked it out and found a wee note in the February Backpacker Magazine which told us that the G-80 was designed especially for professional geologists with a 1:20000 scale etched into the base plate and interestingly, a built-in clinometer which we hadn't noticed. The note concluded by saying that " the G-80 is very accurate and nearly indestructable. It is a difficult compass to use"
So thanks to Thomas in Amsterdam and the Backpacker Magazine. Unfortunately, we don't know how we acquired the compass itself, but thanks to whoever donated it.
