Ice/Piton hammer with serrated pick and square ended hammer. Fancy tape round the shaft.

Mick Tighe bought this hammer on the internet for £10 in 2015 thinking that it looked rather unusual and that's how it's turned out.
Other than the above we don't know anything about it since we can't find any identification marks at all. This would normally imply that it is homemade since manufacturers like to put their names on equipment for all sorts of reasons. However, if the hammer is homemade it's a very good job which someone has done since we suspect the head would need to have been forged. Maybe it's a prototype, a production model without a name but we don't know. Please tell us if you do.
We're guessing it was made in the 1960's/70's and though 'aged' it's had little or no use. A true enigma.
