Turm
Germany
Turms seems to be a trade name for the Spirit Stove branch of the German company, Meyer & Niss which began life in 1910 and ceased trading in the late 1960's. It seems that they produced lots of things ' metallic' including equipment for the German Army during the Second World War for which slave labour was used in the form of Jews, Gypsies and anyone else the Nazis deemed socially unacceptable.
Anyway, our stove seems to date from the 1950/60's and whilst often referred to as a 'spirit' stove this type of stove is also known as an 'alcohol' stove though we haven't tried it on Malt whisky! Wood alcohol and something called denatured alcohol seem to be popular fuels while methylated spirit is the most readily available and works well.
Mick Tighe bought this one on the internet for £8.00 in 2015.
