Items of camping gear
wool, plastic, metal,
10
We've archived these few items together as a wonderful little cameo of the 1940/50's camping scene, a time when many of the items so familiar to us in the modern world were not available. All the items were donated in 2015 by a lady called Margaret Berwick and her husband, both of whom were in their late 80's at the time.
Margaret had stuck little labels on most of the items:
"Three food containers - tea, sugar, oatmeal. - my favourite diet"
Much darned socks - good woollen socks were valuable and we mended them - also sewing kit with RAF number on.
Use in camp-
1 pre mixed pancake batter
2 tops for opened milk bottles
Water bag - much better than plastic bottles etc.
Chemists were begged for aluminium( light) cans before the days of polythene.
Billy can - bought in New Zealand.
Egg carrier - the eggs (two only!) would be bought at farms on route."
Fabulous - we just love the egg carrier and it looks like the 'billy' has been used on an open fire - those were the days!
