Provenance

Things of the 'homemade' variety have always been our favourites since they speak of days long ago when folk had less money. There were few, if any, gear shops, people had more time and of course, they had the skill to make things.
So, when it comes to homemade, it doesn't come any better, or more unusual, than this double burner paraffin stove made by Alfie Ingram. Alfie was a key figure on the Dundee mountaineering scene for decades in the late 1900's/early 2000's as a club member, rescue team leader, mountain festival organiser and engineer.
Alfie tells us that he made the stove back in the 1960's and used it when he and his wife, Joy, went away camping for the weekend - he would light it on a Friday night and leave it running all weekend!
A Shell, gallon petrol can is the basis of his creation, with lots of braising to take various bits of primus and tilley lamp. It worked well at the time, and still does, some 50 years later - fabulous!
