These ice tools have provided another wee mystery for our Heritage Detective Agency to investigate and unfortunately mystery still surrounds them
There are lots of clues, though they don't fit together too well. The initials SMC normally stand for Seattle Manufacturing Corporation which, understandably, is American. Stubai of course is an Austrian outfit as we can see on the tools. Don Enos(2016) is the Global Sales Manager for SMC and he can't find any reference to the tools being made by them, but as they are an Original Equipment Manufacturer ( which means they make things for other folk) the tools could have been made by SMC before his time. We haven't been able to get a reply from Stubai.
All we know for sure is that Findlay Swinton kindly donated the tools in 2015, and we think they are of a 1980's vintage. They have never been used and are pretty much in mint condition.
Just heard back from Stubai with the advert which you will see opposite and info to say that SMC means Stubai Multi Change.
Donated by Findlay Swinton
