Provenance

Early Winters seem to have begun life over in Seattle, USA, around 1972, making outdoor gear, particularly tents. It seems they were one of the first companies to use the new, breathable, Gore-tex fabric when it hit the market in 1976 and seemed to make large profits as a result.
Their rather upmarket candle lantern was one of the many other products and though rather heavy for the average backpacker became quite popular in the 1980/90's. The advent of LED headlamps with long life batteries pretty much sealed the fate of candle lanterns so we are pleased to have this one in the collection, having bought it for a few pound on e-Bay in 2015.
