Provenance

Hamish MacInnes is a legend in Scottish Mountaineering circles, with a vast array of mountaineering firsts to his name: pioneer of countless new climbs, inventor of the world's first all metal ice axe and the MacInnes Mountain Rescue Stretcher, founder of SARDA (Search and Rescue Dogs Association), author, film maker and designer of this jacket!
Hamish tells us he designed the jacket and had it made back in the 1950's which we have no reason to doubt, though we are rather sceptical about his claim that it's made from Grenfell cloth since the material looks to be of a nylon type, either P.U. or neoprene. Either way it's a jacket of a simple, functional design which Hamish is wearing in the photo opposite. The picture is scanned from the October 17th 2016 edition of the Times which discusses an early ascent of a climb in Glencoe known as Crowberry Tower Direct. We loaned him the ice axe and boots for the photo shoot and when he returned them Hamish gave us the jacket ... cheers Hamish!
