The pressurised paraffin stove was invented in 1892 by a Swede called Frank Wilhelm Lindquist and because it was a world's first he decided to call it Primus which is Latin for first. Millions of pressurised paraffin stoves have been produced all over the world since then and even though there have been a host of different makers, the term ' Primus' has become the generic word for them all.
The pressurised paraffin system worked just as well for blowlamps as it did for cooking stoves, both producing a good hot flame once they were up and running and just like every camper would have carried a paraffin cooking stove around with them in the good old days, a plumber would have had his blowlamp to solder pipes together.
We are not sure who, where, or when, but somewhere along the way somebody has taken an RM Blowlamp, stripped it down, added a burner head from a Primus stove, brazed on a different pump and some pot rest supports and created a hybrid camping stove - fabulous!
Sadly, having bought the stove on the internet, we don't know who made it, but the original RM Blowlamp - see picture opposite- and the Primus parts date from the 1950's ... a testament to the times.
