The AF initials on this pair of mittens are for Allen Fyffe who is a Mountain Guide based in Aviemore. Prolific climber of new routes in the Cairngorms, Allen has also been on several Himalayan expeditions and these mittens are from one of these trips.... we think Broad Peak in 1980.
Expeditions like this would be sponsored by various equipment manufacturers - in this case Mountain Equipment., hoping for some publicity. Doesn't look like this pair got used and have been sitting in Allen's shed for 36 years as a consequence.
