Provenance

Coleman are an American company which specialises in outdoor camping stoves amongst other things. They are prolific in their own country and have become very popular in the UK.
The Peak 1 400 seems to have appeared on the market around 1980 and quickly became popular with outdoor folk even though it’s quite heavy,
Reliability and robustness seem to be major plus factors, with many still in use nearly 40 years after they first appeared. Unusually, it has a ‘simmering’ option which keeps your stove bubbling along nicely while you drink your tea.
Like all Coleman stoves it runs on highly refined white fuel which, rather confusingly, the Americans call gas. This is more expensive than other fuels, but does ensure trouble free, clean burning with much reduced eyebrow singeing.
This particular stove was kindly donated by our good friend, John Fraser.
