Fabulous pair of bothy boots here in the collection, made and donated by Ann Wakeling of Aviemore, a lady who made lots of her own gear, was a member of Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team and who for many years pottered around the mountains with her husband, Edwin, for the latter part of the 1900’s.
Not sure if she recycled an old duvet of some sort or created the boots from scratch. The outers are certainly bespoke, made from PU nylon with a lovely little bit of stitched re-enforcing on the sole which is also an anti slip device.
Duvet boots would be used for pottering around camp in cold, dry conditions below freezing, but in a somewhat wetter Scottish climate they would more likely be used as bothy boots while mountain/ski boots dried by the fire.
