Provenance

Bit of a curio this, as initially we thought it was homemade, but closer inspection revealed a ‘Clog’ stamp on the head. We have an early Clog catalogue but no sign of a piton hammer so we assume it’s some kind of prototype or ‘limited edition’ since we have never seen another one. Interestingly, the two metal rods attached to the head are the same as those on a Whillan’s hammer which you will find elsewhere in the collection.
PS
We found a Clog Piton Hammer for sale in a 1970's Graham Tiso catalogue- see opposite
The hammer we have here was donated by Bob Smith, mountain man, climbing instructor and one time leader of Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team.
