Laprade
France
This rather unique form of rock climbing gear was invented by Jaques Paul Fournier and patented(French) in 1979. It was marketed by the French company, Laprade, but doesn’t seem to have been a huge success, though they could be found in French climbing shops back in the 1980’s.
A few ‘nests’ made their way over to the UK in the 1980’/90’s, probably bought on trips to the Alps. This particular set once belonged to Irish Mountain Guide, Sam Crymble, who kindly donated it when he retired. Information on the history comes from our friend, Stephane Pennequin, who owns the Nuts Museum in Corsica.
