Provenance

Having formed as the Lowland Division in 1908, it later became the 52nd (Lowland) Division in 1915 and fought during WW 1 after which it became part of the Terratorial Army ( TA) It reformed again in 1939 and spent a good deal of WW11 mountain training in the Scottish Highlands, ostensibly as part of a plan to invade Norway.
The Cameronians were one of the Battalions which made up the 52nd and Edward Scott was one of their number. His son, Ricky, donated this fabulous set of badges to our collection when his father passed away.
PS In one of the many vagaries of war the 52nd’s mountain training came to nought since they retrained as an airborne unit in 1944. This too came to naught and they were finally landed by sea at Ostende in late 1944 to fight in the final part of the war in Europe.
