Duvets were a bit of a fashion item back in the 1960/70’s especially amongst alpine climbers who carried them as part of their emergency bivouac gear. They would often wear them in the pub/bar to show what ‘cool’ alpinists they were even though they got very hot and sweaty in the process and looked anything but cool!
Most of the duvets were down filled then, which meant they were useless if they got wet and therefore even more useless for the often wet UK climbing scene.
Though they were often beautifully made, stylish and good to wear, many of them were consigned to the loft in the 1980’s, replaced by synthetic materials and a little later, Gore-tex.
Point Five, makers of the jacket we have here in the collection, were pretty much the ‘only kids in town’ when it came to down jackets in the UK. They seem to have begun life in the 1960’s and faded away in the 1990’s, though we are not sure of the exact company details. Neither are we sure of which model this one is - choose from the info opposite.
We do know that Irish Mountain Guide, Sam Crymble, passed it on when he cleared his loft and headed back to the Emerald Isle.
