Provenance

Gustav Fischnaller seems to have arrived in Scotland around 1965 from his native Austria. Skiing was his forte and he pretty soon had his own ski school operating at the newly developed Glenshee Ski Centre. We’re not sure exactly when, but roundabout the same time, he started making skis in a wee workshop in Braemar. Interestingly, another Austrian, Leopold Vielhaber, was also making skis in Birnham, Perthshire about the same time. Whether or not they colluded we are not sure.
Fischnaller was very active in the Scottish Ski scene back then, so active in fact that he nearly died when trying out the new craze of uphill skiing with parachutes. Whilst being towed up the piste one day in Glenshee he got airborne at the top and crashed into boulders on the other side of the mountain, injuring himself quite severely.
He survived and so did the pair of skis we have here in the collection which were kindly donated by Edmond Mansion who bought the skis way back in the Fischnaller days and now wishes to retire himself and the skis.
