Pointfive
England
We’re not 100% sure of the timeline but it seems that a down and quilting company called Bantons based in Nottingham decided to diversify a little in the 1960’s and began producing gear for the outdoors, primarily sleeping bags and duvets. We do know that they used the brand name Pointfive which is a world famous ice climb on Ben Nevis.
Pointfive duvets and sleeping bags were very popular in the 1960’s/70’s and 80’s. Initially they were filled with goose and duck down but later with synthetic fibres which were more suited to the UK climate.
The lovely Fivepoint jacket we have here in the collection is filled with ‘Dacron Fibrefill 2’ which implies that it’s a later version - 1980’s.
It was kindly donated by Mountain Guide, Allen Fyffe, pioneer Scottish climber/ mountaineer.
