Provenance

Jeff Lowe was an American mountaineer who invented and created all kinds of innovative gear for mountaineering and the Chock Tocker we have here in the collection is one of many.
Basically, it is a nut extractor used for hooking reluctant climbing gear out of cracks. The hammer could be used for tapping in loose pitons or rapping your climbing partner on the knuckles if he/she tried to pinch your bagels!!
Another American climber, Tom Forrest, had a similar device which he called a Bam Hammer and understandably perhaps, most of these devices stayed over in America with very few making their way across the pond.
Made by Interalp Camp in Italy and marketed by Salewa, we reckon our Chock Tocker dates from around 1980. Our good friend, Art McCarthy, sent it over from the USA in 2019 ...thanks Art.
