We are usually delighted to receive donations to our collection but these cams come with a tinge of sadness as they once belonged to our good friend, Andy Nisbet, who was tragically killed, along with Steve Perry, on Ben Hope in the north of Scotland in the winter of 2019.
Andy’s long time climbing partner, Dave McGimpsey, inherited Andy’s climbing gear and not wanting to use these cams himself, he passed them on to us; a little memento of a great man.
Faces Design were part of an outdoor retail shop based down in Matlock, Derbyshire in the 1980’s and seem to have commissioned someone - we are not sure who- to design and manufacture these cams which were just one of the many ideas that followed from the appearance of Ray Jardine’s Friend in the 1970’s.
Cads were fairly popular for a while, but production seems to have ceased when Faces went bankrupt and the owner, Jim Ballard, moved to Scotland with his wife, Allison Hargreaves and their two children - but that’s another story.
