We already had a couple of Primus 96 stoves in the collectiion when this one arrived. It was in such a poor state of repair that it nearly went on the skip but we decided on a bit of TLC and here it is.
The date code stamped on the bottom indicates it was made in 1930 and it seems to have had a rough life in the intervening 90 years with several, soldered repairs and lots if dents - if only it could tell the story!
Primus was the first company to produce pressurized paraffin stoves in the 1890’s and they were also one if the first to produce collapsible/ portable stoves for the great outdoors at a time when the main market was the domestic scene since few folk had electricity then and gas was mainly in the towns and cities.
‘Primus’ has become the generic name for all types of paraffin stove of whatever make or origin. There are millions of them out there, mostly in collector’s cabinets these days.
