Provenance

“Operated for only about 15 years from 1890 to circa 1905 at 26, Coventry St. being described as razor makers.”

Appearing in the London Knife Book 1820 - 1945, this is the only information we can find concerning Hennig & Co, makers , or more likely, retailers of this fabulous ice axe.
There is another Hennig & Co. in London but they deal in diamonds so unlikely that they would have produced ice axes.

Therefore, we think it’s fairly safe to assume that the Hennigs from Coventry St. had this axe made for them, most likely in Switzerland and retailed it in their shop having stamped the Hennig logo on the pick.

Wonderfully constructed, very much in the Swiss style, the axe is in pretty much mint condition, the only negative being that we, unfortunately, have no record of the donator - many thanks anyway.
