As the name implies, Primus were the first company to produce a pressurised paraffin stove in 1892. They were a Swedish company and several other Swedish companies were quick to join in the ever growing paraffin stove market. Radius was one if them. They began life in 1913 making Primus lookalikes which puzzles us a little since Primus had a patent on their stoves.
Anyway, most of the early paraffin stoves were aimed at the household market, a time when few folk had electricity and cooking was done on an open fire, a woodburning stove or a paraffin stove.
No doubt, some of these stoves were taken on early camping trips though they were cumbersome. It would be a decade or so before collapsible stoves appeared, aimed specifically at the outdoor market.
It seems that Radius added ‘Ltd’ to the tank stamp after 1939/40 so ours pre-dates that since it has no Ltd.
The S:or implies its a Senior or bigger version than the basic No 1 and this one was kindly donated by Jane O’Donovan on behalf of her late husband, Roger.
