William Norman Ling (1873-1953) was a prominent member of both the Alpine and Scottish Mountaineering Clubs, with a glittering array of mountain exploits to his name.
Amongst many other ‘offices’ he was President of the Scottish Mountaineering Club from 1919 to 1922, and some decades later when the club were inaugurating a new club hut they chose to name it after William Ling.
Located in Glen Torridon and used by mountaineers as a base for their activities, the Ling Hut is a nice little memorial to a fine mountaineer.
Somewhere back in the mists of time, another well known mountaineer, Roger O’Donovan, acquired the key to the Ling Hut and forgot to return it.
Roger’s wife, Jane, passed it on to us a few decades later assuming the locks have since been changed!
Donated by Jane O’ Donovan
