Turblokken is Norwegian and translates as ‘the touring block’ i.e. a lump of food that you can bring along on a walk or ski trip. This type of prepared, often dried, food goes way back into the mists of time with classic example being pemmican, food of the North American Indians much used by Arctic explorers, though consisting primarily of dried meat, often supplemented with wild berries whereas Turblokken is chocolate, fruit and wheat based - a vegetarian option!
The rather curious advert - opposite - appeared in the August 1977 Climber and Rambler Magazine and it implies that Turblokken has ceased to exist and a lack of any further info after that date seems to prove the point.
Muesli bars, energy bars and the like have replaced Turblokken, many of which seem to be equally unpalatable!
