John Hinde was a stalwart of the RAF Mountain Rescue Service for many years, initially as a team member and later as leader of various RAF Rescue Teams. Amongst other things he worked at Outward Bound Locheil in Scotland after retiring from the RAF. His daughter, Fiona, and son-in-law, Roger Wild, also a mountain guide, are friends of Mick Tighe and donated this ice-axe to the collection when he died. We have a fabulous 1960's television news clip which features John and various other RAF characters, rescue training in Glen Nevis, Scotland. We'll get it in the sound archive when we've checked the copyright.
