Early skis were made from a single piece of wood which meant that the camber under the binding and the curve at the tip was clamped and steamed into position. The problem then was that the wood wanted to straighten itself back out again, especially when stored out of the ski season.
One way to counter this was to put a wooden block between the skis under the binding and clamp the ends to keep the camber, or bow, in the skis.
There were other ways of keeping the 'tip curve' which you will find elsewhere in the collection.
This lovely little set of clamps was passed on to us by the Scottish Ski Club and would have been pretty upmarket when bought around 1950. They are made from oak and don't seem to have been used.
