Provenance

This lovely pair of breeches were donated by Alex and Mary Gillespie, which is very appropriate as Mary is the one who made the alterations by adding gore-tex patches and lower legs. The front thigh patches were designed to meet the lower edge of a waterproof jacket and repel the drips when it rained - this meant not having to put waterproof trousers on in all but the worst of weather. The lower sections of gore-tex performed the role of gaiter. A highly skilled seamstress - Mary customized all kinds of gear, some of which you'll find elsewhere in the collection.
