"Necessity is the mother of invention" according to the old saying and round about 1975 , Bill Skidmore, felt that he needed some better rock climbing gear so he decided to re-invent some of the stuff he already had which in this case was an old Clog Hexagonal chock. We don't know if Bill was short of cash at the time or maybe Chouinard Hexentrics hadn't made their way over from America by then, though it's fairly obvious that Bill had seen one somewhere since he drilled and filed his old Clog Hexgonal and made it - nearly - into a Chouinard Hexentric - lighter, easier to place and probably safer - a job well done.
A prolific maker and re-inventor of climbing gear, Bill was a pioneer on the Scottish climbing scene back in the 1960's and 70's and his widow, Mary, kindly gave us some of his gear when he passed away in 2015.
